Both trails accommodate hiking, biking and horseback riding. In 2001 Dunnellon served as the backdrop for the filming of the movie “Jeepers Creepers” staring Gina Philips. Today, the city continues to be a gateway for the tri-county region of Marion, Citrus and Levy counties.

Just north of Dunnellon is Rainbow Springs State Park with Florida's second largest artesian spring emptying 315 to 795 million gallons of water into the Rainbow River each day. Great for boating, tubing, canoeing, swimming, diving and snorkeling, the crystal clear Rainbow River winds southward and meets up with the mighty Withlacoochee River in downtown Dunnellon. Known world wide for its largemouth bass, the river offers freshwater fishing at its finest and runs west out of Dunnellon into the Gulf of Mexico where saltwater fishing is abundant. Dunnellon's central location is minutes away from larger cities such as Ocala, Gainesville, Inverness and Crystal River Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. Only 90 minutes away are all the major tourist attractions such as Disney World, Sea World, and Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida and Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida.
